1955-10-08 – Fonda. This was Ken’s first win at Fonda. This particular race was held the night before the big Langhorne National Open (won that year by Pete Corey), and some of the fastest cars/drivers had skipped Fonda in order to be at Langhorne. Ken Shoemaker Jr has identified the driver here as his father. The 2x coupe was driven on dirt by Jim Hurtubise, Gene Bergin, Rene Charland and Don Wayman, in addition to Ken.
This is the famous 2x coupe after its windows had been enlarged and it had been turned into a full-time dirt car. In 1970 builder/owner Bob Judkins sold it to Tiny Lombard, who campaigned it as #3 with Rene Charland as his regular driver. Photo by John Grady, from Racingthroughtime.com.grady
