Following his considerable success in the ¢, which he had built and co-owned, midway through 1966 Ed built and owned its successor car, which he ran as the %. He raced it for only the second half of ’66 and on rare occasions in 1967, however, as from the start of ’67 he began to drive the 2x coupe on a nearly full-time basis.

The “RCS Special” referred to sponsorship from the RCS Amoco station of Rocky Germani, Ed’s co-owner of his preceding car the ¢. The service station was located on West Main St, New Britain.
