1955. This poignant photo is of Wendell with his son Wendell Jr. It is clear from their expressions how proud each was of the other.
1960 – Daytona Permatex 250. Wendell was caught up in the first lap 37-car crash which knocked out his windshield. In the pits he then removed his car’s rear window and wired it into place as a makeshift windshield. He returned to the race but later his engine blew.
