Please note: This list was composed largely from original newspaper reports that, decades after their original publication, were archived and made accessible on the internet. For most of the races in which Ed competed there are no internet-accessible reports, and therefore this list is incomplete. I estimate that the following includes 40-45% of all the races in which Ed competed during his career.

Ed was drafted into the US Army, and could race only when he was given leave (or managed to travel to a race “without leave”). Initially he was based in Jackson, SC and raced in that area, although there are no known records of his results in SC.

Mid-June – Ed suffered broken leg in racing crash, was hospitalized and sidelined for an extended period. This accident took place when he had left his army base without permission, which resulted in an extension of his time in the service, and stricter limits on his ability to race. He remained in the Army until late 1954.
